Being on the line with so many amazing SUP super names who I have had the chance of meeting and all are very nice was truly sweet.
I had my Team mate Matt Abbott right next to me ready to rock and the one and only Miss Lina Augaitis who was helping and coaching us on the start line. After her amazing race yesterday and a silver medal it was great having her right next to us helping out. Really felt stoked about that.
Racing was great, conditions were fair and you can catch bumps both directions. It may have looked calm on the pictures but there were bumps out there. It was really fun. Sadly with little bumping into other paddlers after the start, it stalled me enough that no matter how hard I try to catch the lead group it was enough that I was not able to. So had to settle for the chase group where I pulled in a bunch of others and I began to be the leader of the first chase group. I felt great and had good energy through the full race, even managed to pick off some of the once that fell off the lead group but not enough to be in the front pack.
Very happy with my race and coming in 16th. I do wish I could have been in that front pack and fight at the end, but I know with more experience racing and competing my placeing will come.
Very excited to finally race and I can not wait to do it again in the technical race on Saturday and Sunday. I know I will be more aggressive and paddle like crazy. It will be a fun challenging race and I am really looking forward to it.
Now I have 2 days off to rest and train and cheer our surfers on.
I do really really miss my two boys and my wife. I saw photos of their smily faces playing in the park today that my Mom took and send to me and my heart almost broke because I miss them so much. They looked so happy in the park playing. Got the chance to see them and talk with them too over FaceTime which I really needed! Love you guys very much!!!
Tune in for more awesome Canadian results....
